Well, once I've got 6 :) The teacher promised one grade higher to the first one to answer. I've got 5 for the answer, and +1 for being the first :) So she honestly put "6" in my дневник 8)

Some of my teachers in the school used to mark "1" instead of "2" :) They said, it's easier to change it to "4" when you improved your knowledge ;)

But in universities, there is a 4-grade scale...

I never understood why Americans use letters at all! :) Numbers are so much clearer and easier to understand. And, importantly, counting average and other statistics is so straightforward...

It does, everyone understands it, but this word (in this meaning) is slightly obsolete.
