how can I learn russian in fun/intersting way?

Postby nadavvin » Sat Jun 16, 2007 2:59 pm

Hello

I learn the alphabetic from this site:
http://langintro.com/rintro/index.htm

and I learn some words from this:
http://www.ilike2learn.com/ilike2learn/ ... index.html

and from then I read news from Google news in Russian and translate the words with Google translation tools, and copy some of the word to Wordquiz:
http://peterandlinda.com/wordquiz/index.php
Actually to Kwordquiz which is the Linux version of it.

but it is boring....
also to learn words which not connect to anything it's boring.

How can I learn Russian in not boring way?

for example, other languages have advantages like Spanish and Japanese since there have fun unique culture ( soap opera and anime, manga)

Maybe watching films?
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

omfg. This
http://langintro.com/rintro/rsnd/wroom.wav
or this
http://langintro.com/rintro/rsnd/bill.wav
is totally wrong.
Or, here
http://langintro.com/rintro/rsnd/softdrnk.wav
'i' is wrongfullly accented in addition to stress on last syllable.
And,
http://langintro.com/rintro/rsnd/kvass.wav
here comes aspirated k... ( where should be unaspirated ), and for some reasons pronounced as 'kfasss'

http://langintro.com/rintro/rsnd/coffee.wav
Kofyyyye. ( as he was taught to pronounce 'e' like in 'yet'. Now that's forever.
and
http://langintro.com/rintro/rsnd/lunch.wav
obyyyed.
And... For Russian speakers !
http://langintro.com/rintro/rsnd/bread.wav"
guess what is it?

Much better, however have problems with leading ( and only leading ) 'r', pronouncing it like 't' or 'p'.

Well... Recodred ( in soviet times ) classic theatre plays? At least is't easy to obtain subtitles for it. I don't consider listening to something without understanding at least 50% is useful.

other languages have advantages like Spanish and Japanese since there have fun unique culture ( soap opera and anime, manga)

Even though
culture has been defined as "a luxury; an elite's prestige commodity; a simple aesthetic appreciation; (or) solely a folkloric epiphenomenon."
(Verhelst T. 1990, No Life Without Roots, London, Zed Books, p.17),

and

the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, proclaims:
Culture takes diverse forms across time and space (Article 1),

it is pretty hard to accept that whimsical and fanciful idea of “culture” in connection with “soap opera” and “anime”. (Globalization of Culture ?)

I cannot but suggest you to read the first paragraph of this good piece of advice:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learn ... ge65.shtml

And to finish with, a well known didactic story.

There's a story about a teacher who told his students: “You know you're making progress in Russian when you speak in Russian , think in Russian , and dream in Russian . “

One day a student came into the class very excited and said, "Teacher, Teacher, last night I dreamt in Russian ." The teacher said, "That's wonderful. What did you dream about?" And the student said, "I don't know, it was in Russian ."

Naddavin, if you live in Israel, there are Russian tv channels, there is a channel, that has old Russian movies 24 hours a day, you can watch them, or ask your Russian coleagues, about famous movies that they know it might help you may be?
May be you should try to watch Russian cartoons? We have cartoons and songs and movies and fun just like every other culture has.

I don't think there's a fun way of learnign a language if you start from the very beginning ;) In the initial phase of studying you just need to learn certain things by heart, and that's never fun.
The less boring techniques, such as learning from songs etc, are only possible if you have already reached some more advanced level, in my opinion ;)
but good luck to you, nonetheless :D

I have to agree, basic learning isn't too much fun. Like learning multiplication tables. You hate the teacher until your calculator dies, then after you balance your bank account with a pencil, he is a hero. Take a class if you can!!!! One of my Russian friends took my "Learn to Speak Russian in 10 Minutes a Day" book from me until I mastered some basic words and how to use them. I was VERY upset! When I send her an e-mail now I say all the personal pronouns and the question words. Tough out the first lessons.

Now where are these Russian cartoons? A Belarusian friend loved watching the Simpsons with me after the news at 11:30 (if a Red Sox game wasn't on, then she'd be mad!).
I'm easily amused late at night...

I can't learn language from watching movies or tv, since it's not help much in other language like English (or at least I think that is not useful for me).

So I think about comics, which is only talking and there are pictures to help the understanding, so I search in Google for "russian comics" which give me this site: http://www.comics.ru/e/ which is even better since it focus in learning Russian and have the English version of the comics to help the understanding.

Something is very strange:
I read the first comics:
Russian version: http://www.comics.ru/8/2502.htm
English version: http://www.comics.ru/e/e2502.htm?Np=0

The problem is in the picture in the bottom left:
In Russian: "Het я серьёзно"
In English: "Do you mean it?"

p.s.

Thanks all the links, I check them latter.

A better translation into English would be "Come on, I'm serious."

It's not a mistranslation exactly, because the sense is correct, but I would use these translations as a very general guide -- not be taken as gospel.

:|

Here is some manga (Japanese comics) which is much more interesting, and better translated to boot.

Furi Kuri is a very cool manga/anime. Try it, you'll like it.

I download also the English version of the same anime and I show the both.

The bubbles placed in the same places so I only need to move from window to window with only alt+tab without moving the eye.

so I moving many, even in the parts of the bubbles and I learn many words and basic grammar.

It is excellent way to learn any language.
