Thread: A Chinese-American learning Russian

здравствуйте! Меня зовут Анн. Я из Китаe.

I’m a Han Chinese born in the Xin Jiang Ugur Autonomous Region of China, in a city that is about 100 miles from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. I moved to the U.S. in 1991 and have lived in Atlanta ever since.

I started learning Russian last month. I’m using the russianforeveryone.com to learn pronunciation and grammar, and the masterrussian.com to learn short sentences. But my favorite method of memorizing vocabulary is learning Russian songs. я люблю слышать песни на сайте Советская Музыка, и на Youtube. I also spend an hour each day listening Голос России или Радио Кавкас, even though I can only understand a few words.

I discovered this site a month ago and think it’s a great place for learning Russian. I’m looking forward to making friends here. By the way, please feel free to correct my English as well. Спосиба!

слышать - to hear
слушать - to listen (to)

Historically "cпасибо" derives from a phrase "спаси (тебя) бог" (Let the Lord/God save you/ keep you safe). Which was a nice way to thank a person.

Does Russian pronunciation seem difficult to a native Chinese speaker?
