How do you say 'She will like me'/' I will be pleasing to her', (is it 'я ей буду нравиться'?) in Russian?
She will like me - Я ей понравлюсь.
I will be pleasing to her - Я ей буду нравиться.
But the first sentence is much better.
Here is a problem of verb aspect in Russian. Roughly, where English people use different tenses like indefinite, continuous and perfect, Russians use verbs of different aspect. Foreigners often consider verb aspect mechanism very complicated and contradictory.
Okay, thanks. Is the first of Leha's sentences the perfective form? Does that imply that when she likes me, she will have 'perfected liking me', ie she will always like me? Would the imperfective form imply that she might change her mind? I haven't got to learning that bit yet!
Yes.Quote:

No. Perfective verbs don't imply something to be "going on", rather one-time action.Quote:

Rather opposite: "Я буду любить ее всю свою жизнь" - полюбить won't fit here with всю свою жизнь.Quote:

I don't quite understand this.Quote:

Thanks, so it would be perfective, because perfective does'nt mean forever, it means something will have a beginning, a middle and an end... I think I got it the wrong way round in my first post.
"I haven't got to learning that bit yet!" means 'I have not learned that yet'

Perfective describes an event while imperfective describes either a process (progressive) or many events (iterative).
She will like me as soon as she will see me because I am so nice. - Perfective. Я ей понравлюсь...
She will like me during all the Saturday. - Imperfective progressive. Я ей буду нравиться...
She will like me each time I will be nice. - Imperfective iterative. Я ей буду нравиться...
Thanks, it-ogo,
that's very easy to follow, I've cut and pasted that into my notes
