Hi,
a few phrases I cannot figure out:
1. how do you say "build-it-yourself" as in, for example, "build-it-yourself radio"?
2. is there a Russian noun to translate "the law" in a sense of "legal profession"? I found адвокатство but it looked archaic...?
3. this one is more "specialist": would anyone know if there is an equivalent in Russian to the phrase "the Long War".
I see that Giovanni Arrighi's "The Long Twentieth Century" is translated as "Долгий двадцатый век". I assume that it's something analogous but...???
for "long war" multitran gives длительная война; затяжная война but these seem to be merely literal translations without the specific meaning of the English phrase... or so it seems to me. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.
ty for any help
