    How do you say....

    Hi,

a few phrases I cannot figure out:

    1. how do you say "build-it-yourself" as in, for example, "build-it-yourself radio"?
    2. is there a Russian noun to translate "the law" in a sense of "legal profession"? I found адвокатство but it looked archaic...?

    3. this one is more "specialist": would anyone know if there is an equivalent in Russian to the phrase "the Long War".
I see that Giovanni Arrighi's "The Long Twentieth Century" is translated as "Долгий двадцатый век". I assume that it's something analogous but...???
for "long war" multitran gives длительная война; затяжная война but these seem to be merely literal translations without the specific meaning of the English phrase... or so it seems to me. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

    ty for any help

    1. I'm not sure what "build-it-yourself radio" is, exactly. If it's a radio that you built yorself than it's "самодельное радио" (самодельный радиоприёмник). If it's a set of parts from wich you can build a radio (or some other electronic device) than it's "радиоконструктор".

    2. юриспруденция?

    3. I am not aware of any Russian name for "the Long War".

You can use the E-learner expression, and there is the expression "сделай сам". "Радио по принципу сделай сам".
"Cделай сам" would be the stright translation for "build-it-yourself". There are such books that called that way that explain how to make and build yourself alot of different things, like radios, and other.

Please, correct my mistakes, except for the cases I misspell something on purpose!

"the Long War". IMHO, "Долгая Война".
длительная война or затяжная война untruly, because it refers to a ONE long war. (Вот я наворотил в этой фразе)

    Wiki:
The Long War, as proposed by Bobbitt, includes the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, as well as the Bolshevik Revolution, the Chinese Civil War, the Spanish Civil War and the Cold War.
