    Russian heavy rock music

SO, my question is does Russia have any good heavy rock music? not heavy as in screaming, but fast paced and kind of like alt rock. It is kind of hard to explain, but something in the same type of SOAD, Korn Rammstein, maybe Weezer? The Russian traditional music is good for just listening, but it is not very exciting. Perhaps like Кипелов but a bit faster? thanks for the help. i know i did not give much information, but i cannot really describe the music very well.

thank you. the first one is awesome, as well as the second. As for the third one though, i don't really like really bad themes, so i think i will stay away from that one

None of the above mentioned is 'heavy rock' though.

Король и Шут belong to the punk rock while Ария is more like metal (or old style heavy metal). Коррозия металла is cr@p.

There's also 'Russian hard rock' but most of it is already posted on this forum so I won't be specific here.
Send me a PM if you need me.

I just started learning russian, is Ария pronounced are ee ya?
Also a band (if not mentioned) is Arkona, I found them searching for russian music one day. It's pagan metal I think.

    Re: Russian heavy rock music

That's rather old stuff. Check one of those:
Калевала - Кудель белоснежного льна (light pagan/folk metal with female vocals)
Alkonost - Путь непройденный (there is screaming actually but nevermind because female vocal is amazing, it is "very russian" if you know what I mean Especially the track called "Нивушка-Нива" - it's a ballad and has no screaming)
Ольга Романова aka Dark Princess sings nice songs on album called "Жестокая игра" (nothing outstanding though)
I think such bands as Эпидемия, Арда or Catharsis are also worth to try. They are all power metal, not that they'er unique (sometimes just clones of western bands) but at least they sing in russian, it's a good listening practice, isn't it?
By the way a lot of decent russian bands use English lyrics, such as Forest Stream, Dominia for example. But I guess you need russian lyrics, don't you?

P.S. Sorry, can't post live links cause our admin blocked youtube and other resources of that kind Just try to search by the keywords.

That's rather tough stuff you know Their vocalist Masha has nickname "Scream" and it's just match! Some of my friends who listened to the band for the 1st time could not believe that it's a girl is singing
P.S. Damn I hate English tenses!

Okey, I've got some free time, so I decided to post some links in addition to my previous posts. Unfortunately I couldn not find any video of Калевала on youtube with decent sound quality (just some fragments of live shows shot whith mobile phones) so I suggest you to download mp3 here:
    http://musicfond.com/music/track/-/%...%B0/?id=513767
    http://musicfond.com/music/track/-/%...%B0/?id=513772
Believe me they worth such efforts
And here is the son g with lyrics by Anna Akhmatova:
    http://rutube.ru/tracks/803944.html?...0feeda2f6c4139
As for Alkonost - just check this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaCNnlshbtU
I fell in love with this girl instantly
And here is one of their most beautiful songs "Нивушка-Нива":
    http://musicfond.com/music/track/-/A...%B9/?id=429663
    Well here is Арда:
    http://rutube.ru/tracks/277459.html?...697&bmstart=66
I personally don't like power metal very much but this song is not bad
But maybe I should get closer to what topic starter requested:
    Dominia (Melodic death)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY1CyubSfX4
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl9F9QSWYxM
Фактор Страха (some kind of metalcore or modern metal I think)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDz9jvOCfeI
    Эшелон (heavy)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEuC2RjBoEU
Театр теней (Herz knows what genre is it!)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00zq8CObwuM
Butterfly Temple (pagan/black - a lot of amazing songs)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWwq0_KEeac
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tnuow8ejyJM
    http://rutube.ru/tracks/1417667.html...dbe44b89db6680
and such as "Солнцестояние", "Сны Северного моря", entire '2003 album, and fantastic "Ночью, хладом, лунным светом" which again I could not find in proper quality so here are links on file hosting
    http://ifolder.ru/3811511 - 2003
    http://ifolder.ru/9743134 - 2005 (1st volume of archieve)
    http://ifolder.ru/9743211 - 2005 (2nd volume of archieve)
And that's not even a half of the russian heavy metal scene

Ever heard of Arch Enemy? That is a band with a female singer (watch blood on your hands live video), the most brutal sounding of all female singers I've heard. This Masha is pretty intense too.

    Re: Russian heavy rock music

Of course I had! I like Arch Enemy very much and I must say Angela is hottie But she is not the most brutal female singer. Here is the whole thread dedicated to female vocal in heavy music and there are people who consider Angela not enough... er... well, not enough seriuos.

By the way a lot of russian bands were mentioned there (it's just to show that I'm not totally off-topic )

    Re: Russian heavy rock music

Actually disocvered this band via Last FM. Ivan Tsarevich (you can guess the origin of the name) is a Russian folk metal band (apologies if this doesn't count as hard rock, but I think it could) and I'll be very surprised (though pleased) if someone actually is already familiar with them. What to say about them... excellent music, a singer with an exceptionally powerful, deep, rich voice, so all is good there. The lyrics? That depends. Sometimes, they're good, sometimes, I think they're perhaps a bit too patriotic, but not to an extent it bothers me. There is just one problem: music by them is very difficult to come by, even on the internet. However, there are a few, including this great tune:

    ЛЕГИОН:
    Листопад
    Королева Чёрных Скал
Птица - это их лучшая песня!
    Звезда - хорошая баллада

    Re: Russian heavy rock music

    Another great Russian band
    FORGIVE-ME-NOT
    (unfortunately, it doesn't exist anymore)
Sometimes they are called "Russian Sentenced"

    Bird-hearted
    Neverland
    The Mind Defenders
    Sleeping Promises
    Последний рассвет

I couldn't find my favorite song 'Painted In Black' (from 2004's "Heavenside"). If anyone can do it, please, post the link here.
