Hi Alexsms,

There is a thread that we had last January about this and also the some of the salaries. I'm not certain that costs have changed all that much. Interestingly enough, the thread was started by another Alex! 1000$ - much or little?

I can update you on the FARMS income level for this year for one person is $20,036 for a family of four it is $40,793. What this means is if you make that amount yearly or less your children are eligible for Free and/or Reduced Meals at school and other free or reduced programs.... like, the wavier of fees for testing to get into college.

Additionally, each area has its own poverty level based upon the cost of living in that area. Where I live it is very expensive so the poverty level figure is very high. For one rental property for senior citizens, you have to have an annual income of more than $27,200 but less than $36,250 for one person. If you have that, you can rent an apartment there for $861 per month. That is only the rent.

For a family of four in my area, an annual income of between $67,500 -$72,500 (depending upon the housing) or less will also get you housing assistance. And the cheapest 2 bedroom (double up to save money) is over $1,000 per month and a long drive away from most major employers in the DC area. Most of the apartments are closer to $1,300-$1,400 per month.

And.... for a single person, the average Efficiency available under the program is $1,055 per month.

This does NOT include your utilities or other expenses. This is ONLY the rent.
