Yep. I’m going to learn Sanskrit in five to ten years, since India is supposed to be the birthplace for my following incarnation. I expect these skills to be pretty easily retrieved though the past life regression procedure.

It might not work that way, because any language requires not only learning but also maintenance. Otherwise, it’s doomed to forgetting, and the less you apply your acquired skill the faster it gets to oblivion (actually it’s not a total oblivion, but your knowledge drops far below the retrieval threshold). The saying ‘use it or lose it’ is perfectly applicable here.

Sure, but reaching the point of seamless integration via self study is a 'herculean' task for our 'lilliputian' brains. )))

So, your next incarnation is planned to be in the past? After all, Sanskrit is an historical language..

Don't be too fast to jump to conclusions, Croc. There're 14,000 native Sanskrit speakers(2001)

Ok, it was you who started it.

The 1991 and 2001, census of India recorded 49,736 and 14,135 persons, respectively, with Sanskrit as their native language.
So, in 10 years the number has shrunk from 100% to 28%. Makes me wonder.. How long do you plan to stay in your current body?

At least till the next end of the world and maybe a little bit longer. Trust me, Sanskrit hasn't extinct for eons of years and will never die out.

There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics, btw.

Thanks. I'm flattered. Actually, my English is rather mediocre. Occasionally, my “English” thoughts are very poor and limited like now, but, in a sense, you’re very right: I’m not a Russian but half alien grown up on the territory of RF.))) My current rather presumptuously goal is to reach C1 level in two years. Lets’s see how it goes, though. Человек предполагает, а бог располагает.

Серьезно what? Sanskrit, reincarnations, past life regression? I guess the last concept is most weird.))) Indeed, the results of past life regressions may not always be precise and exhaustive, but in so far as learning is no more than recollection according to Socrates ("we do not learn, but that what we call learning is recollection" (Meno, 81e)) I still cherish the hope that my possible Sanscrit studies won’t be futile in any event.
Are you going to pick up a new language after Russian or already fed up to the ears with language studies, btw?

I stopped following you…Your original claim that Sanskrit is totally dead sounds wrong, and your attempt to build a linear trend with just two points and extrapolate it in the future is biased. Local folks propagate like rabbits, after all. Period.

    Anyway,
“Sanscrit is the official language of Uttarkhand” (0:37). “Spoken Sanskrit is still used in a few traditional institutions of India” (1:10). How can it be possible if (according to you (?)) nobody speaks it?

That the usage of statistics could either be a lie of all lies or a truth of all truths, depending on the point of view.

Don't take it too seriously, I was just having fun.

Somehow, they had not between 1991 and 2001. I guess, the rate of propagation of the local folks hugely depends on the 11-year solar cycle.

    Gotcha.

Well, almost. The Crocodile's logic rule number one is: be humorous and if others perceive you as serious, it's their sovereign right.

Crocodile’s logic rule N3. Ignore other's common sense when it contradicts my statistics, and ignore other's statistics when it contradicts my common sense.

    Thanks for sharing.

Pretty close, yet not entirely there. Crocodile's logic rule number two: statistics, extrapolations, and other methods of analysis are what they are - the methods of analysis and not the God's word. People express their opinions, i.e. their interpretation of some data analysis done (most of the time) by somebody else. If you want to start an epistemological/ontological/otherwiselogical discussion with me, just throw down your glove.

You're getting closer with each rule you deduce from my posts.
Crocodile's logic rule number three: a common sense can only be useful if enough data (and its respective analysis) was properly collected and processed. Unfortunately, that is never the reality. Sometimes, in my posts I thrive to offer complimentary data and/or analysis. Seldom does it get accepted.

For example, you mentioned a source (Wikipedia for that matter) which stated the statistics of some 14K speakers of Sanskrit. I pointed out that the same source ALSO mentions there were more users just 10 years earlier, (and obviously 2,000 or so years ago there were many more) so the usage of Sanskrit is clearly on decline. Have you made you point that Sanskirt is not purely something of the past? Yes, and I think I have not disputed that. You convinced me Sanskrit is not purely historic. But does it have a future as a largely spoken language? I think, most unlikely. I missed the point at which you got offended.

Sorry, I only wanted to prove with Wiki that Sanskrit is not completely dead. Nothing else. And I actually needn't the time machine or reincarnate in the past to find its speakers as you claimed. That's all. Also, no one knows the future for sure. Hebrew was the dead language for centuries, and now it flourishes with five million speakers*. It's better to stay away from predictions about languages. Likewise, I'm not offended at all. Normal discussion without insults; you challenge my points and visa versa.
