    Am I doing this right?

First of all...before I can actually give you an example of how I say something, I'd first fancy to ask how you take a recording. I already know how to put it onto the forum, but I can't seem to find directions of how to record in the first place.

I want to see if I'm pronouncing these words right:

    Женщина
    Жизнь
    щелчок
    посещать

    Thanks!

Kind of depends on which software you have available, but assuming you are using WinXP or Win2000 go to Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Sound Recorder
It will produce a *.wav file, which you will probably need to compress to mp3 to fit into the required limit... I am using dBpowerAMP Music Converter for this. Unfortunately, their latest version is not free (it used to be)...

I don't really care about how new the program is. I just need to get something that'll compress it. Is there any free versions?

Поскольку ты только хочешь сказать четыре слова, необязательно compress it. Just use sound recorder, it will fit unless it is long..

I have no idea what you are doing to pronounce щ but it is completely off. Щ should just be pronounced like a longer ш.

Well, that's a relief. I thought that's how it was pronounced, and I can barely pronounced half the words I know with a щ in it. The ukrainian lady said a щ to me, and it shounded like a shch, but with a slight pause in the middle. I was pronouncing sh, but took my tongue to the top of my teeth and turned it into a ch. I'm so relieved.....

See, this is what the lies of Russian language books lead to!

    Щ is not pronounced shch

It's basically a longer softer sh.

In Ukrainian it IS шч but NOT in Russian.

Anyway, your щ seemed to be s-ch-sh or something.

Don't trust Ukrainians, they say things wrong.

Well, I won't listen to the ukranian lady's pronounciation anymore. But I will ask her questions, because she's the only person I know who has a russian background. The other person is too busy teaching classes.

    Thanks.

Basically they are OK, but there are certain letters they pronounce differently, even in Russian. She'll probably pronounce Г as an h and pronounce Е as Э and other stuff.

Really it's best to find some Russian recordings. You can easily find them online.

It's hard to make out what you're saying in those recordings, to be honest. IMO, you should pay particular attention to the pronunciation of the letter 'щ'.
