Another note:

Whereas the coursework and tests (and so forth) in many Western universities count towards the final grade in addition to the final exam, in Russia you need to "pass" all those "зачёты" in order to be allowed to take the final exam. If you fail even one зачёт, in any subject that has it, you would not be allowed to take any final exam at all.
