Помогите, пожалуйста, не могу сообразить, как сказать по-английски "смотреть в глаза". Например, в таком контексте:
Как ты можешь (после этого) смотреть в глаза своим товарищам?

I think its more emotional or something but both sound ok.

Yeah, Look into my eyes is cool too.

Gaze, stare, get lost, take a swim.

All verbs you can verb in some eyes.

Except that 'eye' should be singular. It's a fairly set expression, "to look smb in the eye."

To "look into smb's eyes" is used, too, but not usually in this context. It's not wrong, but more a question of what is usual.

"Look me in the eye and tell me you didn't cheat."
"How can you look me in the eye after what you've done?"
"Notice how he avoids looking you in the eye. What do you suppose he's done?"

Actually...It's very proper to say: Look me in the eyeswhen you say that. And : How can you look me in the eyes after what you've done? However, you're correct on the last one. That is "Notice how he avoids looking you in the eye?"

I agree. "To look into someone's eyes" is usually used to show an emotional connection between two people (caring, sympathetic, romantic).

Imho, both are equally acceptable.

Apparently, some people do say "look me in the eyes". I stand corrected.

I don't usually hear people say it that way, but a Google search shows that it is used that way fairly often. Not as often as with a singular 'eye' (3 to 1), but still quite often.

I imagine nobody would notice if you used one or the other.
