    Остаточные явления

    Как перевести вторую фразу в следующем диалоге:

    - Ты так кашляешь... Ты болен?
    - Нет, это остаточные явления.

    I would say :
    - you're coughing a lot... are you sick?
    - no, these are just the residual effects (of a very bad cough I've had)

    Spiderkat's translation is correct, but I'd say that's the very formal version -- I don't think you'd normally encounter somebody saying that. Maybe something more colloquial would be "I'm just getting over a cold/infection/whatever" or "It's just the end of my cold/etc."

    ...And it doesn't mean that they don't know how to say it colloquiallly! I would say "остаточные явления" and ifeel okay.
