    does anything eat soil? Doesn't it eat things in the soil? To me, soil means dirt, earth; what kind of creature can turn that into energy?

    Oligochaeta for example. They consume soil and digest any organic material they find. I translated a scientific text about using them for cleaning silt from oil contamination.
