How would you describe species that eat soil?

does anything eat soil? Doesn't it eat things in the soil? To me, soil means dirt, earth; what kind of creature can turn that into energy?
How about "geophage" (made up word) or something? From "geophagy".

Oligochaeta for example. They consume soil and digest any organic material they find. I translated a scientific text about using them for cleaning silt from oil contamination.Quote:
