    you got me

"you got me" is also slang for "you fooled me" or "you tricked me"

True, but I for some reason I thought that Leof was talking about a differnet situation, when "(you) got me" simply means that the soeaker doesn't know the answer to the question s/he has been asked.

It seems there are three possible meanings depending on the context.

    1 you tricked me
    2 you caught me
3 I don't know (when said like a question "you got me?")

Shadow, you have shown me the light!

You caught me and you tricked me are the words I was seeking.

Edited: basurer

I think there are even more.

    1) You tricked/fooled me.
    2) You found me.*
    3) You caught me.*
    4) You've stumped me or "I don't know" (I don't think it has to be a question.)
    5) You have me.**

*If you've been looking for someone and you finally found them you can say "well, you got me at last!" or if the police have been tracking a criminal and finally caught him "the police got him (apprehended him)"

**As in "You have me to comfort you"
A: My wife left - what am I to do?
B: Well, you got me if you want to talk about it.

Then you can say You got it! meaning "you understand it!"
    A: 2 + 2 = 4?
    B: You got it!

Interesting tidbit. I recently did a play and there was a line "You got me!" In context it could have meant "Well, I have no idea - I'm stumped!" or "Well, you have me if you ever need to talk."
