    word "strained"

The phrase is - you make strained parties.
    The question:
is it correct to use word "strained " in this context? I mean, when a party is organized by someone against his will...

And is it correct to say -" to make a party"
or" to organize a party" ?

    Thanks.

"You make strained parties"--doesn't really sound right to my ears. I'm not sure how I would fix it, however. The only sentences I can come up with are long extrapolations of the notion that one organized a party and that they did it against their will. As for organizing vs. making a party, I would go with organize if you specifically mean they planned it and set it up. Otherwise I would just say, "They HAD a party." To have a party is pretty much the mainstream.

"To organize a party" sounds like you got a group of people together to go look in the woods for a lost child or a runaway convict or something. They call that "organizing a search party."

    You plan a party.

There is no such thing as a "strained party".

Describe in more detail what you are trying to say. Organized against their will??? Can you give more info?

Exactly. Someone doesn't really want to party, but he has to, so he does it against his will. So it doesn't come from his heart.

Someone doesn't want to plan a party? Or they have already planned it, but they don't want to actually put on the party?

Okay, first, there are 3 good ways to talk about setting up or organizing a party:

    plan a party

    put on a party

    host a party.

"Host" doesn't always imply organize, but it does mean supply the location and or the supplies. The other two imply organization.

    set up a party

This means to get the stuff together immediately before the party.

Also note that you said "to party", which has a slightly different meaning. "To party" means "to have a really good time at a party". Think of drunk fraternity guys yelling "Party!" It also can mean "to do drugs", as in "do you want to party?"

Putting on a party unwillingly, so that there is tension? "Your party is tense."

What kind of strange novel are you writing?

    Hi, Aaa!
Thanks for lots of information, I guess I'll take some time to analyze it.
    Honestly, I'm confused.

What kind of strange novel are you writing?

I'm not writing , I'm translating an essay ( unusual one!) from Russian to English.

I can send it to you it it's original, if you wish.

No thanks, I'm just a beginner at Russian. If you needed help AFTER you've translated it, cleaning up the English, I could help with that.

I'll try a little further on this translation:

"This party you put on is rather tense."

"The mood of this party is rather strained."

    Oops, forgot one!

    You throw a party.

That means the actual act of having the party, not the planning thereof.

Just say. He/she reluctantly(unwillingly) put together a party.

How ever you want to say it use "reluctant/ reluctantly" to explain the strain the person is experiencing in this situation. Reluctant means: unwilling; not willing to do something, but does it anyway.

    That will help,

    Take Care,

    Val
