Weght on the tongue

the context is:
the wine has "weight on the tongue".
Can anybody explain me what it means? Please!!

I suppose it means it has alot of flavour or something. I'm not really sure, you'd have to ask a wine taster.

It does both.

Typically, at least in American English, when you use the word 'weight' like that, it typically means 'influence'. So in this context, I'm pretty sure having "Weight on your tongue" means that there is an influence on the tongue.

Another popular example:
He's got a lot of weight around here.

There is alot of wine tasting vocabulary that ordinay people don't understand. Odds are if you asked a wine taster they wouldn't be able to explain it to you without having you taste several bottles and then you still wouldn't know what he was talking about.

Maybe if Ateklana could provide the source, we might better be able to identify the meaning :D

Yes, but what does "influence on the tongue" actually mean.

Weight means it has a full flavor, almost , but not quite, too strong.

Light is the opposite, meaning bordering, almost, but not quite, watery.

I'm betting it is a Burgandy.
It would go well with a heavily spiced or cremed meal. (Cremed, not creamed)

A 1990 Chateaux de Couchon, Moulon Rouge (OK, I made the last part up).

Wow!.. I see, it must be something like "насыщенный вкус".
Actually, I met this expression in a book and that's why I couldn't understand even if it meant good or bad :)
But now I know what to do with it when I read it on a bottle, thank you!

Cremed and sommelier are pronounced true to Francais, like Jackie Kennedy would say the words, not the cartoon accent of John F., Robert or <shudder> Teddy Kennedy. A "Back-Bay" accent works best.
