That's because most of America's trains are used for shipping cargo, not for human passengers. We have Amtrak - but it is very expensive (airfare is sometimes cheaper) and very limited. There are not many places you can go by Amtrak. America is not like Europe, Britain or other parts of the world where trains are a normal method of daily transportation. Americans ride Amtrak mainly for vacation or sightseeing.
