    Dear all,

May I have this topic to practice my English, and get corrections?

I will write a few sentences about anything, so it will be not a huge text, but something that pops up in my mind... So:
    -------------------------------------------
Has anyone already seen The Simpsons, the movie? This summer is rich with witty ones, I guess. But I have seen only Die Hard 4, speaking of the very new movies (can I say films?). I liked it, however when the airplane started to chase Bruce Willis, my impression поубавилось. (How to say that? I mean I was not disappointed about whole movie, but that was a very not realistic!)
me not speak English, correct my errors, pleez!

I think Die Hard 4 was extremely boring. At times I found myself staring into space. BW is ok, but the villain is pathetic. And I stoped watching after bad guys captured John's daughter. Duh! Very creative...

Boring? yes, that word is a good one. Still I am not a movie-goer, so for me it was a kind of event (Honestly, I have a Netflix account...)

What about the trend that beautiful/handsome guys are bad? And people with imperfect skin, unshaved and so on can be smart, witty and hot (corr. warm)-hearted?
Still I liked Софи Марсо, if it was she. It is very hard to me remember actors' names.

Has anyone seen The Simpsons the movie yet? This summer is rich with witty* movies, I guess. But of the most recent movies** I have only seen Die Hard 4. I liked it, but the scene where the airplane started chasing Bruce Willis was a little off the wall for me.

*I don't understand what you mean by "witty" as applied to films.
** Yes you can use "film" but you should stick to one or the other, do not mix both in this context.

    More:
"rich with" is kind of antiquated, I would not use.
"I guess" does not fit into this context. I think you mean: I think there are a lot of [witty?] movies this summer.

I'd say it is better to mix 'movies' and 'films'. Repetition = bad style. 'Movie' and 'film' are synonyms, so can be interchanged freely in this context.

For example, if someone is doing a review of a singer's new album, the writer will avoid using the word 'album' all the time, and will say things like 'release', 'disc', 'record', etc. to avoid repetition.

It's worth pointing out that 'movie' is generally American English. British people will use 'film' most of the time, although 'movie' is becoming more popular.

I would never have thought it's so wrong in English...

'Witty' is more likely to be applicable to people, not to inanimate objects.

His plays were very good, very witty...
    It's from a dictionary.
So, plays can be witty but films can not?

I think "film" and "movie" are from different speech registers, that's why I would probably not use them together. Film is the higher-level term.

As far as "witty" is concerned, I just said that I did not know what you meant by it. I guess if you applied it to a play, I would think it was a comedy. We don't generally use the word here in the US, so that's why I was unclear of its meaning. We would probably say ... a lot of good comedies and cartoons this summer. Ratatouille, anyone?

    thanks!
I agree that better to not use them together. I just did not want to repeat the same word 3 times.

I meant the movies are full of witty dialogs. I wanted somehow to make an accent on the type of humor in the movies. At the same time I have not seen a lot of them, but I have this opinion, as I saw commercials/рекламные ролики.
    That's why "I guess" appeared.

    Ratatouille, anyone?

What is the difference between "someone" and "somebody" ("anyone" and "anybody")?

At school (in Russia) we used mostly "somebody".
Here it seems that the word "someone" is more preferable, I almost stopped using the word "somebody" by now.

And if someone knows the official name for grammatical constructs like "started chasing", "I stop reading", etc. could you tell me? I would like to find the rule
