    Oh, I forgot. "In a serious way" means just that it was not merely a hobby. He was serious about his new work. Sometime we use "in a serious way" to emphasize a big change. Also we say, "in a big way" which is similar. Just call it an idiom if that makes you feel better

    Sorry for not answering right away. thank you, guys.

    One more question: what is visionary book? Is it some kind of comics or it means that it's unrealistic/fantastic?

    Visionary usually means something that looks ahead to the future. Most of the time is does not mean fantasy or sci-fi. If someone wrote a good book about business or social trends predicting what they will be in the future, you could call it a "visionary book".

    gRomoZeka asks: what is visionary book?

    I agree with paulb:

    visionary adjective 1. full of foresight: characterized by unusually acute foresight and imagination
    Encarta(R) World English Dictionary [North American Edition] (2003) http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_/visionary.html

    видение = провидение + воображение

    In this visionary book, C.K.Prahalad and Venkat Ramaswamy explore why, despite unbounded opportunities for innovation, companies still can't satisfy customers and sustain profitable growth. . . . This book is about the emerging "next practices" in value creation. . . . . This book presents a detailed view of the new functional, organizational, infrastructure, and governance capabilities that will be required for competing on experiences and co-creating uniquevalue. This is the future of competition.
