    Omens

Do omens exist in English culture? I mean the omens like "If the left
palm itches it means you'll get a lot of money. If the right palm itches
then your health will be good."

Yes, but most people don't pay attention to them.

black cat crossing the street infront of you is a bad omen. Or even a DDT crossing the street infront of you...

If Deedeetee crosses the street in front of my car it won't be me who has to worry about bad luck.

OMG thanks! I've been wondering amongst myself on just how exactly deedeetee should be written and understood by others at the same time! Awesome.

IMHO, these aren't "omens", but just a routine superstitions.
(Some of them, like superstitions about 13th numbers, are quite universal.)

There is no house number 13 on the street I live on. The "odd" side jumps from 11 straight to 15.

There are a number of hotels who dont have a 13th floor. Instead it's either 12a and 12b or it goes from 12 straight to 14.
Dont walk under ladders is another, as are, dont pass someone on the stairs, dont put shoes on the table, dont open an umberella indoors, break a mirror for 7 years bad luck. they go on an on and are all things you shouldnt do to avoid bad luck.
Not walking under a ladder seems wise if there is someone on top of it but the rest are old wives tales.
More madness than method but it works for me.
