Thread: Rhymes

Hello.

I am trying to write rhymes... Here it is:

ARCTIC
=========
There are no people around
Who can bring any help
White snow only surrounds
And the air is very fresh

UNIVERSE
========
There are stars, planets, galaxies
And black holes deep in space
Who knows what was the planes
When the God's creating this place

TIME
====
Time always flows steadily
And we can't change it
If you're spending time for nothing
Just stop... And think... A little bit.

As for me, I tried to write a couple of them five years ago. It's not that difficult:

There lives an unusual Man,
Who never wants to walk as he can;
All the people who lope
Look and laugh at the grope
Of this really obstinate Man!

An interesting Girl from Brazil
Suddenly felt she was ill;
So she made her way home
With the groggy man’s roam,
That wonderful Girl from Brazil.

Your syllable count and rhyme placement are fine. Two things though. First, it's usually good not to repeat the same rhyming word. Once in a while this is ok, but you should try to avoid it if you can.

Second, limericks need to be funny. The majority of limericks are actually really dirty, but any form of humor is fine. The classic example of the dirty limerick is to start like this:

There once was a man from Nantucket . . .(a city in Massachusetts)
The second or third rhyme will then be f--- it. I'm not promoting writing variations on that one, but that's been a common limerick for a long time.

In early, classic limericks this repetition was actually a norm. The last line was usually a variation of the first one.

An aside, Nantucket is a small town on an island of the same name. I was there a few weeks ago.

Here's a sample:

A charming young lady from Poland,
Extended her visa to this land
She gurgled and thought,
This is quite a lot
To get past security Homeland...

So I'm a perv....

Hmmm,,,,,I've started a limerick but I am stuck for the next word......

There once was this chick from China
Who had an expensive ...............

any ideas?
