I have never heard of this name before. I doubt if anyone I know could say for sure how to pronounce it.

I did a Google on "Herhold" and found that some television news anchors could not pronounce it either but no information on its actual pronouciation.

How do you pronounce unfamiliar surnames then? A surname you're looking at for the first time?
How do you write surnames if hearing them via the phone?
Someone calls and tells you: This is Lewis. How do you know it is Lewis, not Louis, not Le... well, you understand me.
    -- Да? Коту Ваське, бл##?
    -- Нет, Я кот Васька :-/

Thanks for your efforts. I'd like to know first of all, if the second "h" silent or not.

Russian is so much easier in this regard: you'll hardly make mistake wriring Dumas, Vercace, Peugeot or something like that.

I would just have to guess....like everyone else.

Yeah, I was wondering whether or not the second "H" was silent too!
