Bit of a tosser = oaf?Quote:
Haha, that's the scene with that cute Jamaican-looking waitress in the café, right? I seem to remember it.
Anyway, "tosser" is a British slang word meaning "masturbator", but it is also used as a general disparaging term — something like "jerk".
Yes, you are.Quote:

По-моему, чисто британское выражение.

Harry, I assume, right about now, you must
be wondering why I brought you here.

Sorry, I can't translate it appropriately into Russian, but "right about now," can be replaced with "at this point," or "by now." In this situation, Harry probably saw something to make him question why he was there, so Dumbledore said "right about now," meaning, "now that you saw that, you must be wondering why I took you here." That seems most likely. Anyway, hope that helps.
"Bit of a tosser"
=British English slang. Not used by Americans.
tosser = w@nker
This is a rude  word and frankly I don't know if I want to explain what it means. Look it up in a slang dictionary...
(English is always using sexually loaded words for swearing!)
Women should definitely NOT use this expression it would sound VERY bad.
The expression is used like this:
Person A: Where is that f-ing tosser John Smith! He took my notepad without asking my permission!!!! :madred:
Person B: Well I suppose he's a bit of a tosser at times, but he's really not that bad, he just a bit distracted and doesn't pay attention to what he's doing...
-----------------------------------------------
Edit: Oh I just saw that TranslationsNMRU has explained the word!
kybarry, Hanna, many thanks!
It can't be THAT bad, right? It's used in a children movie!!! :)Quote:

It's not so bad. It's one of those words that's much gentler than the literal meaning. I'd put it on the level of "crap" (Блин perhaps?) or just a little bit stronger. I (as a woman) used to use it (in Britain, not in the US), as did friends, without consequence. A bit like like "he's a real jerk" in American English.Quote:
