I dont understand these phrases, could you help me...

In the bottom of the eighth, Nomar Garciaparra hit a two-run shot into the screen on top of the Green Monster. The Red Sox took a five-to-four lead and Tom Gordon came on to pitch the top of the ninth.

(It's a commentator's report about some game....)

This commentary is about an American baseball game. It is a few years old.
There are 9 innings in a baseball game. The teams take turns batting. Team A bats, then team B bats, then the process starts all over. Each pair of turns is called an inning. Since team A goes first, they bat at the "top" of the inning, and team B bats at the "bottom" of the inning.

"In the bottom of the eighth" means the second team (Boston Red Sox) is batting and it is the eighth inning.

"Nomar Garciaparra hit a two-run shot into the screen on top of the Green Monster." - This means Nomar Garciaparra hit a home run and scored 2 "runs". A run is an очко in baseball.

"The Red Sox took a five-to-four lead" means the Red Sox are winning 5 to 4.

"Tom Gordon came on to pitch the top of the ninth" means Tom Gordon is pitching for the first team (Philidelphia Phillies) for the fisrt half of the ninth inning.

Actually, a better translation would be: "Satan successfully made his triumphant return."

Also means that there had to be someone already on base, as a home run is considered one "run" but since there was someone on base, that means 2 Runs were scored.
