    First Nations

Discoveries are normally recorded when the initial contact, via wellbore, is made in a field previously unexploited. The Canadian oil sands, for example, were well-known to the indigenous people or First Nations many centuries ago, and were discovered” by European traders in the 1700s.

I believe "First Nations" is the term that Canadians use for Indians/Native Americans/Aborigines. The first two are what Americans usually use, and the last one what Austrailians use. Basically, just those people who were around before Europeans showed up.
