    Кабак, жральня, тошниловка...

So, what are the common slang names for some shabbier enterprises* in UK and US? It's interesting to see the full spectre of definitions. :)

    *cafes and 'restaurants'.

    In the US:

    greasy spoon
    dive
joint (chicken joint, burger joint, ribs joint)
    hole-in-the-wall
    shack

also, any small, cheap business can take the adjective "rinky-dink"

Hole-in-the-wall is not ALWAYS cheap or shabby. It just has to be very small.

The black stuff - это твердокопченая колбаса, не видел, что ли, никогда? А желтое - похоже, это мясо какое-то... Замученное.
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

The black stuff is called Black Pudding which is like pork meat I think and blood (that's why it's black), you probably have some similar black sausage type thing in Germany.

The other thing is Hash Brown which is like finely shredded potatoes made into a potatoe cake type thing.

And in AmEng, this phrase is not to be confused with a 'glory hole', which is literally a hole in the wall.
