Could you help me to translate the one of my favorite songs

Mark Knopfler. A place where we used to live. Предложения, которые я пометил, не могу перевести. Спасибо огромное!

    This empty kitchen's where
I'd while away the hours *
Just next to my old chair
    You'd usually have some flowers
    The shelves of books
    Even the picture hooks
    Everything is gone
But my heart is hanging on *

    If this old neighbourhood
    Survived us both alright *
Don't know that it withstood *
All the things that took our light
    You on the stair
    I can see you there
    Everything is gone
But my heart is hanging on

Once there was a little girl
Used to wonder what she would be *
Went out into the big wide world *
    Now she's just a memory
There used to be a little school here
Where I learned to write my name
But time has been a little cruel here *
    Time has no shame *

    It's just a place where
    We used to live
    It's just a place where
    We used to live

    Now in another town
    You lead another life
    And now upstairs and down
    You're someone else's wife
    Here in the dust *
    There's not a trace of us *
    Everything is gone
But my heart is hanging on

    It's just a place where
    We used to live
    It's just a place where
    We used to live

Re: Could you help me to translate the one of my favorite so

I am not knowlegeable enough in Russian to translate this song.
It is rather difficult to understand even for a native English speaker.
But I can try to clarify the parts you are having difficulty with.
If my interpretation is not exact, maybe somebody else can explain better.

This is poetic for "I would spend many hours"

I am still alive despite all the difficult times.

If we both survived in this old neighbourhood

    Hmm. Not sure. Maybe
I do not know how we survived everything that happened to us.

She left the town and went out on her own

    Hmm, this is straightforward
    Time is cruel
    Time is heartless

Какой толк от богатства если ты не счастлив.

Kwatts, I am impressed with your paraphasing. And, I'm a native english speaker! Australian that is.

Sorry Q32, I'm a world away from being able to translate that.
