Can anybody correct my translation?

Два предложения о расследовании смерти Гитлера.

The second commission naturally complicated matters, especially when blood was found on the walls of Hitler's living room in the Bunker and the skull with the bullet hole turned up in the very crater where the Fuhrer's body had been found.

Мой примерный перевод:
Вторая комиссия, как и следовало ожидать, только запутала дело, особенно, когда на стенах гостиной Гитлера в Бункере была найдена кровь, и на том самом месте, где было найдено тело Фюрера, появился??? череп с пулевым отверстием.

Вообще не могу понять смысл. Откуда появился?? Этот череп что, валялся там (у Гитлера было ДВА черепа?)?
Если не "появился", то, может быть, его "перевернули"? Еще более странно.

Было ли это также из-за того, что советы сомневались в своих собственных экспертах, принимая во внимание, насколько был убежден Запад, что Гитлер застрелился?

Че-то тоже не очень пойму, куда клонит автор... При чем тут Запад и сомнения в экспертах?

To turn up, значит что-то было найдено неожидано где-то

The skull turned up in the crater - Череп был найден в кратере

the skull with the bullet hole turned up in the very crater where the Fuhrer's body had been found.

Череп [...] был найден в таком же кратере, где тело фюрера было найдено (with the emphasis that they did not expect the skull to be there)

не понятно без контекста, но похоже что череп был там c телом. Наверно они не верили, что Гитлер стрелял себя, но этот череп доказал этого.

The problem is author said doctors already made postmortem examination of Hitler's body, and Hitler did have a scull.
After that there was another comission, and they found "the skull with the bullet hole turned up in the very crater where the Fuhrer's body had been found" and cosidered this scull as a "proof that H. shot himself". I really can't get it. May be this is author's mistake?

hmmm... "the skull with the bullet hole turned up in the very crater where the Fuhrer's body had been found" means that the skull was found AFTER the body. Meaning they were not together... So the first postmortem examination was wrong (if they claimed he had a skull...)?

В Википедии написано, что у черепа Гитлера отсутствовал один фрагмент, который был найден позже - он как раз и был с дыркой. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitler's_death . Т.е. под "the skull with the bullet hole" имется в виду не весь череп, а этот фрагмент.

I understand what's said there, but I need literary translation, as close to the professional one, as possible.

The text is not too big. It's an annotation and a small foreword to the book about Hitler's death.

From internet searching, it is called Operation Myth. So the correct translation would be досье "Операция Миф"
