Does ''bowl of jello" has some other obscure meaning aside from its direct (literal) one?

Well... a bowl of Jello is just that.. it sits there and does not do much besides wiggle and might look pretty if it is a nice color. Otherwise it has no value at all, maybe a paperweight? It has no nutritional value and it's cheap and easy to make.

Also, a Jello fruit ring or mold are often used in tv/movies as the jokes as what NOT to bring to a dinner party.

I see, thanks. I just saw someone mentioning 'bowl of jello' in some strange manner, something like: 'we don't allow bowls of jello here' (I'm not sure if it's the exact quote but pretty close).

Then that would mean they don't allow folks to sit around all day and do nothing. Or folks who have no brain. Someone who just will let you bounce ideas off of them all the time and never participate in the conversation or come up with anything on their own. Never a real thought of their own.
