Firstly I'd say "I'm not much of a soccer fan" I don't like the two "of"s.

To me they are the same, maybe exactly the same.

Although in contexts the top one could mean "I'm not a soccer fan at all". Maybe.

    1) "I'm not much of a soccer fan" - I think this pretty much means you don't like the sport, but it's a polite way to say it.

    2) "I'm not a big fan of soccer." This said by itself pretty much means the same thing, as TATY said. However, I think this statement also leaves room for something to say after it, like "But I watch it every now and again."

If said with a bit of sarcastic intonation, they could imply you hate or look down on soccer.

I don't think there's a very perceptible difference between them.

    P.S. Explain to me

I wouldn't say "sarcasm"; you could just flatly state that and have that meaning come across. Sarcasm would come into play if your friend said "Hey, did you see Brazil won in overtime yesterday?" and your reply would be "Oh yeah, I'm such a big soccer fan" in a really snide tone.

    1) I'm not much of a fan of soccer = soccer sucks

    2) I'm not a big fan of soccer = soccer sucks

So how do you say "I am not a big soccer fan" in Russian?

BTW: "It has a nice ring to it" is an expression that means "It sounds cool"

Like я не футбольный болельщик? Yeah, you can say that.
