Only when you stop stopping your life can you begin to start starting it.
It comes from sports. In college sports, if your team wins, they get a banner and you hang it back at the school to show EVERYONE that you WON. So, if you are giving a talk and trying to motivate your people, you would say, "we're starting off great and we're going to have a "banner year" You mean, "We're doing fantastic and gonna do GREAT, we're going to WIN!
