    Перевод слов/фраз из книжки

    Решил, изучая английский, читать книжку на языке оригинала. Имею ее и в русском переводе, но некоторые фразы все равно не понятны. Надеюсь на вашу помощь.

    1) And then there was nothing to be done for it. The order had been given, and honor bound them to obey.

    This is most likely certainly wrong, but I hope you'll understand my перевод enough to get the meaning --

    Было нечего делать для этого. Приказ получили, и они были обязаны его выполнить из-за чести.

    Or perhaps Никто не мог делать ничего для этого for the first sentence? I'm not really sure what 'it' is in the original.

    there is nothing to be done - ничего нельзя сделать.
    give an order - отдать приказ.
    bind smb. to do smth. - вынуждать что-то сделать, заставлять (bound - прош.время от bind).

    Ah! Thanks to both of you. I always seem to forget that нельзя isn't the same idea as запрещено, as in something can't be done because it's not allowed, not because of lack of ability. Hopefully I'll remember this for next time.

    Всем спасибо, а отдельно - alexsms. Тяжело было разобрать эти обороты, да и в словарях не все толком расписано.
    Я так понимаю, что "and then" можно перевести как "и еще", "кроме того", "к тому же"?

    then - также, потом, еще и т.п. Смысла особого не несет, используется для связки.

    Это зависит от контекста. Вполне может и иметь смысл. Типа "И (теперь, после того, что было сказано выше) больше уже ничего нельзя было сделать".
    Если бы после слова "then" была запятая, я бы согласился, что здесь оно означает "кроме того". Но запятой нет.
