вроде бы что то ещё с around было...
Lingvo lists it as "• валять дурака — to idle." You could also use more colloquial expressions like "to mess around," "to dink around," "to lie around," etc., just like Misnomer said.

Be careful with Misnomer's translation - those two phrases could also be interpreted as having a sexual connotation:
"Me and this girl messed around last night"
"We just f*!@#ed around... the relationship wasn't serious"

I was pretty sure "валять дурака" was "to pretend to be stupid"/"don't play the fool" or is there a different phrase I am thinking about?

"Dink"? That's not something I've ever heard.
"Goof off" sounds more sexual to me than "mess around". Neither of them sound very sexual to me.

All these though, do have only a CONTEXTUAL meaning of sexual activity. I can think of dozens of other scenarios where you could use them, and they'd be perfectly fine and devoid of any sexual meaning.

I think any word can have a sexual meaning, given enough imagination... here is a list of words that, in the right context, can be very dirty:
eat
gang
cherry
lick
stuff
and the worst of all...: kebab
