Hee! You called me "akh!" I suppose that is normal in Arabic, but of course I'm not used to it...what about "Yaa khuuyi?" I've heard they only talk like that to each otehr when they're in the mosque though...

I'm bored of Arabic...perhaps I should let Jas-Jas beat me and concentrate on Chinese. I have no reason to learn Arabic and I don't think I'm going to ever use it. But then again, I am probably never going to need to use Russian either...

What if the Russian was a Muslim?

Yeah, I know. I heard somewhere that Islam was the fastest growing religion in Russia, but of course, you can't believe everything you hear...

I heard Mormons and Evangelists are the fastest growing in Russia. Guess you really can't trust everything you hear.

At the end! You become bored of Arabic also! Now we concentrate ourselves on Chinese. Which competition I win, endly.

Errr...Arabic time has been cut down to speaking with my friend whenever I see him. I might bring along my book and work through some stuff with him, but if you beat me in Arabic, it's no big loss. It's all about Chinese now, baby!

How did you get bored of Arabic after learning it only a couple days? I have been learning it for several months before deciding it was pointless to sit down with long vocabulary lists remembering words like "factory" and "foreman"(the book I have is targeted towards business travelers, I think) if I'm never really going to use Arabic. My interest in Arabic culture has also admittedly declined. It might just be a phase though, who knows, I might get interested in it again later.

    Which competition I win, endly.
    ??? I don't understand...increase coherency level by 1 point.

Которое соревнование я выиграю, конечно. And I've already explained the reason for my getting bored with Arabic so quickly. But of course also; when am I ever going to use it?

Competition is great! Without it, I wouldn't have been able to motivate myself to learn 15 new characters last night, even though I was already sleepy and had to get up early the next day. I would have also probably quit Arabic several months ago. Those 15 raised my character count to a nice round 150, by the way. There's gonna be some excitement now, buddy-boy!

Gosh, jealousy is starting to bubble in my intrepid soul. Where are you learning this Chinese? I suppose I have to go and read the beginning of this thread

Garmonistka, please join up with us in learning Glorious Chinese language! I decided to learn Chinese as I am rather proud of my Chinese heritage, plus I have a large interest in China and perhaps living there someday. I am learning it from a course I picked up at the bookstore. It is rather good but a little short - I'm on lesson 23 of 30 and I only know around 200 or so words. It is called "Modern Chinese: A Basic Course" and written by the Faculty of Beijing University. I wanna get "Chinese Characters: A Genealogy and Dictionary" - zhongwen.com is the free online version of this, but I don't like going on the net every time I want to look up a word.

As for Jasper, I think he started learning it because he wanted a fairly even competition with me, since I had started learning Arabic months before he could begin Although I don't know how even the competition is, as I can just walk over and ask my mother(who is fluent in Mandarin and Dae Jiu) how to say something correctly or the pronunciation of a certain character. Perhaps this will help level the playing field for you, Jasper: http://www.mandarintools.com/dimsum.html
You can open up text files and websites in it. If you put your cursor over a character, it gives you pronuncation and meaning. You can convert everything to Pinyin(accent marks or numbers).

Now then, if we competed in learning Norwegian, it might be a little more fair

    Pravit's current Norwegian vocabulary: 2
    1.Herr - Mr.
2.Tusebbo - Name of a certain Norwegian cottage
Heh heh heh! I'm ahead, hahhahha, I'm AHEAD!

You know what? Let's compete in learning Dutch! "I heb eene tandarts notig", wasn't it? Whatever you've learn or say you're going to learn, you'll never speak any language as good as I do Dutch.

Ooh, how cruel. That's sort of like saying "You're never going to learn to speak any language fluently." Just for that, I believe I am going to get a P.h.D. in Russian someday THEN what, buddy-boy?
