Thread: сейчас - теперь

Both сейчас and теперь mean "now", but there is a difference.

Cейчас is neutral: Я сейчас гуляю по городу. (It answers the simple question "when?")
Теперь isn't, it signales a break with the past: Я всегда ненавидел балет, теперь я его обожаю.

Also сейчас/щас can be used as a "I'll be right back", "I'll do it straight away" теперь isn't used in that way.
