Help on Tsar Peter the Great's death

Q: How did Tsar Petr the Great die, and why is it ironic?
A: Czar Peter the Great loved water and died of a bladder infection, gangrene.
Q: I was looking for the catalyst that hastened this problem.. a particular event
A:... Ideas? I have searched the internet and am not finding what I recognize as the catalyst. Please help. Thank you. Spasibo.

Ok, but is there a legend about his death that might differ from wikipedia?

History books described his death as "His powerful organism worn out by disease, strain, and an irregular life, he died on February 8, 1725, without designating a successor to his gloriously victorious, multinational, modernising, and exhausted empire".

    Death of Peter the Great

I believe the ironic nature of his death was that he said he would choose his successor and it would not go by inheritance then he died without naming a successor. The story goes he said "I leave all to..." and then died. Only one source says this it may not be true but the other parts are. Other than that he died at age 52 of gangrene as a result of a blocked bladder on which they operated. There was only a 10% chance of surviving the operation and he did not. AJRG

He was said to die after saving 20 soldiers on a boat near Lakhta on a tour of St. Peterburg and surrounds on November 5th 1724. The story may be true and his underlying condition; he had large kidney stones and had an operation the autumn before, was exacerbated by this, but his death followed two months and 3 days later and was not a direct result of the incident.
