They are most definitely Orthodox Catholic. It is hard to find non-orthodox churched in Russia that old.

Why are you so interested in exactly this Cathedral?

I have to make a model of a church and it has to be Catholic. I wanted to do St. Basil's however it is way too elaborate. I need to find out when, where, and how it was built. Thank you for your help!

St. Basil's isn't Roman Catholic; it's Russian Orthodox.

The two pictures you posed are both of this cathedral, I believe: http://russia-in-us.com/Lavra/ The starfield onion domes do appear to be different colors, but I suspect this is due to either the camera or to restoration efforts; it seemed like every cathedral I visited during my time in Russia was being restored in one way or another. Needless to say, it's also Russian Orthodox, as is just about every cathedral in Russia. I believe Kalinka is mixing up her religious terminology.

Russian Orthodox is Christian. There are sub groups of Christianity such as Protestant, Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox.

Русская Православная Кафолическая Церковь Восточного Исповедания

Russian Orthodox Catholic Church of Eastern Denomination

In fact, "catholic" means "common", so if to translate literally "Communist Party" into Greek, it would be "Catholic Party"

It's obvious that this is an Orthodox Church. And Russian, for a specific architecture.

Indeed. But 99% of the time, when someone says "Catholic Church" in English, they are referring to the Roman Catholic Church.
