Thread: Old Russian New Year's

I know Russians celebrate New Year's on January 1st, but I was wondering if they do anything special for the old new year's? It would be on January 14th, right? Also, am I correct in thinking there are holidays in Russia from Dec. 31- Jan.7 ? Does nobody work during these days? What about now? Is it still a holidays there?

Well the only thing my family does is toast to the New Year on that day and that's the day we take down our Christmas Tree...I'm not sure about the holidays from Dec.31-Jan.7

Well, if people feel like having a party or want to find an excuse to get drunk, they celebrate the Старый Новый Год . The majority of Russian doesn't have any big parties on that day.

As to the big holiday Dec. 31- Jan.7, I think some people do not work at all during this period, some do work (freelancers like me )

I'm not sure about the holidays from Dec.31-Jan.7

Jan. 1-2 is day off. This year Jan. 3-4 were day off too. Then Jan. 5-6 are working days, the 7th is Xmas so it is day off and that's all.

After a normal work day we toasted the "old new year" at dinner then watched the fireworks from our balcon (brrr!!)
