    In fact Vasily Livanov (and Vitaly Solomin) were universally recognized as the best Sherlock Holmes and James (John) Watson on screen. They expressed their characters completely! And that's not only the Russians' opinion. There were over 300 other movies featuring Arthur Conan Doyle's heros, but the Soviet/Russian one was one of the best!

    Livanov's portret hangs in the Sherlock Holmes Museum in Baker Street 221B as one of the actors who've best performed Sherlock Holmes in movies. I think it matters.
