Funny. ?!
IS it a bad thing to be called funny (in russia(n) ) ??
It seems like everytime someone says something cool that makes me laugh, or is just... funny, i'll tell them they are funny, and they always answer imediately "Почему смешной(ая) ?" im like ok never mind you're not funny.
Same thing when i say "lol" usually they are like "whats funny man? what did i say funny?"
Is it such a big deal ? And how do u tell people they are funny/ said something commical without being offensive ? "prikolno" maybe ?
-
In regard to language,
Ты смешон is offensive, Ты смешной is not.
Perhaps, you just surprise people telling them they are funny while they haven't said anything funny.
-
Oh... but they have !
oh well.

I think when you say "Ты смешной" (or смешон, not really big difference for this exactly case), it means that "you are funny as a person" and not "what you said is funny". Or even "you are ridiculous", and no one wants to be ridiculous. You'd better say what was actually funny - "смешная шутка", "смешно сказал" etc. In colloquial speech it's better say "прикольно" indeed.

! yes ! i had a feeling i should use this word.............................. maybe i will now =O thanks.

None of these suggestions, while excellent, match with what Dogboy wanted to imply, i.e. that the person is capable of telling good jokes, and has comic talent.
Any way to convey that in Russian?
