Can anyone give me the Russian translation for Charles? My great-grandfather's English-inized (um...yeah) name was Charles, but I know that wasn't his real name. The Charles version of Russian please?
Thanks so much :P

Carl. Карл. It's not very Russian, though.Originally Posted by squidward

Though I do believe there was some type of Russian translation, or Charles was like a name he chose or something when he came over from Russia.

If it is a coomon guy or even a prince (like the current prince of Wales for instance), he will be Чарльз. But if he is a king, he will be Карл, like Карл I or Карл II in history. Or another, non-English Charles. He may be Шарль like Шарль Перро if he is a French, or Карл Великий if he is Charlemagne.
Спасиба.
