Thread: Russia vs. Ukraine (Donetsk)

Hi,
Been offered a job in Donetsk now..
how much Russian do they speak there? Is it predominantly Russian or Ukrainian that's spoken?
I guess it's not the most glamorous of cities but .. what's it like wrt everyday amenities and cost of living (edit: I mean, of course, compared to Russia, Moscow or provincial)? Anyone got any inside info on that?

well, waxwing, mate, the time to learn to drink gorilka has come. never mind this ukranian vs. russian thing, you'll get along with the folks down there famously. just remember - go-ril-king-do is the same as vod-king-do, but full contact. since you've got a black belt in the latter, i think you'll be fine.

Well, i read some articles last year in ukrainian, they said that it's hard to find people who could speak in ukrainian longer than 5 minutes and then they speak in russian or so-called суржик, it's a mixture of russian and ukrainian. I think it is an exaggeration but who knows...
