Thread: cheap flights from NA to Russia

are there any north americans out there who have any tips for finding cheap flights to russia. im from canada and the flights to moscow, sp etc are extremely expensive. it almost seems cheaper to fly into a euro city like paris or copenhagen and just take a train to russia. is it normally more expensive to fly to russia or am i just looking at crappy flight websites?

Aeroflot tickets are even a little expensive than Air Canada ones (about $1150 for a round trip Toronto-Moscow in May). Its special offers work only for trips FROM Russia I guess.

And tickets from Toronto to Paris, Copenhagen, Berlin, Riga cost about the same as to Moscow or I'm just looking at cra@@y flight websites?

I read recently that sometimes you can get a better deal by calling the airline directly because they have to pay to be listed on those sites like kayak.com.

Have you checked with a travel agent?

Talk to a travel agent- yes, I know they charge a fee, but they are motivated to get you the best deal they can and they know they are competing with the internet.

Where in Russia? I have no idea about internal travel, but from North America to Moscow, or anywhere served my the major airlines, the following are good plaves to check:

I booked my flight to St. Petersburg with Finnair, it cost me about 1400CAD total for a flight in July.

Toronto-Moscow on Aeroflot is cheap. Or so I've been told.

The price of flights change seasonally and according to how many seats remain unsold.

I just flew round trip from Oklahoma City to Donetsk, Ukraine, the cost was $1048. That did include an 18 hour layover in Munich, which I ended up getting a room and that added to the cost, but not by much. I flew home one week ago today, so this price was very recent.
