    Top Ten Resources

Since there are so many different threads on what books we should get I thought I'd try and condense them.
What are your top recommendations for us newbies?
Dictionaries, grammar books, language packs etc.

Russian: A Complete Course for Beginners by Nicholas Brown (on Penguin Books). Take off in Russian is good to help you pronounce (i kno u got that, i read ur other post). And once your into russian, a big fat dictionary (Oxford ones are best). I got the book 501 russian verbs, but thats not that useful.

This book by Nicholas Brown, is it for beginners only? I have a tutor but I'm looking for something to read in my spare time. I hang out on this web site to practice reading and I visit other sites, but I can't always get to a computer. I'd like a suggestion for something I can carry around with me. I have a dictionary but that's a little bulky and sometimes boreing. I saw this post and thought I'd ask.

    Thanks!

The Penguin book is labeld, 'A Complete Course for Beginners' but I'm sure it can be used for brushing up if you're a little more advanced or haven't studied in a long time.
    Here's my rundown:
The New Penguin Russian Course - excellent for newbies!
Russian in Exercises - great for grammar reinforcement
Oxford Russian-English Dictionary - good in conjunction with the previous book
Collins Russian Concise Dictionary - HUGE dictionary with over 40,000 terms. Shows common phrases that go along with the corresponding word. Great all purpose dictionary. A little bulky.
Pimsleur Comprehensive Russian - good for building pronunciation skills. Apalling price and no grammar lessons! Best to download them

You should also watch Russian movies, or adleast TV. Hearing it helps.
