    Typing in Russian

Is there any FREE Russian Typing/keyboard software to download? Can any one help me by giving the link? Perhaps, you, svetik...

I know a little Russian and wanna refresh it now.

    Thanks.

(Assuming you're on a Windows computer...)

Start > Control Panel > Language Options > Languages > Details > Add > Russian

The only problem, of course, is that the keys would be labeled wrong.

I think he means like a practice software, like when in Elementary School, and you had to type out sentences and things of that nature. Basically, to improve on his typing speed, not to actually be able to type.

    Try here:
    <a href = "http://inter.ergosolo.ru/eng/download.html" target = "blank">http://inter.ergosolo.ru/eng/download.html</a>

I barely got a chance to look at it, so I'm not sure how good it is, and the first 40 lessons are free, it says.

Yeah, Solo is a great software. I've used those 30 (or 40, don't remember) free lessons. It's pity I haven't tried the whole course, because now I can type with blid method just too slowly. Anyway, it's worth trying.

I think Stamina is very good for learning Russian Keyboard; it's free too.
Should be able to type in Russian in a couple of hour.

wow, thanks, tohca! I like that one way better... It even has a "connect four" game built in!!!

a note, though, you have to change some settings on your computer, all the menus come up like the encoding is wrong. I don't have time to mess with it right now, though.

I think I found the very link on this website.

There is a free version with plenty of practice flash cards.
These are flash cards, BUT, by doing this for a couple days I was typing in Russian in no time. There are levels to the flash cards, and the last level, I think i s called 'OWN IT' in which you see the picture and you have to correctly spell the word in Russian, by typing it.

It has a built in keyboard mapper, and you can set it to any keyboard you want...standard Russian, or student. But, I found that you not only were forced to remember exactly how to spell words, but before you know it, you are typing really fast.

Well I was a good typist in english already, but for me this program did the trick, is very professionally done too.

Nah, don't worry about it, what we're learning (at class) is very basic, hopefully we'll be doing more in-depth things next semester... Until then (and after then), stick around here! Do you want to hear something funny? I am meeting my girlfriend's mom for the first time on Friday, and her (the mom's) English isn't very good. But, she can speak Russian very well, so Z told me I can just speak Russian with her to make her feel more comfortable... Yeah, right! Here's how the conversation will go:

Her: (insert complicated Russian sentence here)
Me: Я думаю, что Нью-йорк красивее, чем Париж.
Her: (confused look, more comlicated Russian)
Me: Озеро Байкал - Это самое глубокое озеро в мире.
Her: (to daughter) Не говори с ним снова. (not exactly sure about "ним" here)
    Me: Hey, I understood that!

    Oy!

Her: (to daughter) Не говори с ним снова. (not exactly sure about "ним" here)
Maybe "не говори с ним больше" (don't talk to him any more)?

It's the instrumental case for он.
I hope for you that your girlfriend doesn't do exactly what her mother tells her to do otherwise she might have to tell you later something like, "sorry but we can't see each other anymore. My mother didn't feel more comfortable at all".
