we all have problems with the shifting stress, just be thankful you're not chinese, then you'de be in for some serious fun. all comes with time, no big deal if you make mistakes. listen to radio and try to carefully learn where the stress goes. no real easy way round it

Sometimes it's better not to do anything unless you want to rephrase every sentences plus correcting the mistakes. Why did you replace something grammatically correct by something wrong?

Chuvak, there is no such word "hain't any". "Doesn't have" was correct. Maybe you shouldn't be correcting posts in English?

    Raed,
Have you tried to listen to some of the free software out on the internet?
BYKI.com is a good starter. You can slow down what is said. Look around, learn the sounds of the letters. It's hard to learn most anything without a formal class, but you can learn some basics on-line now. Find a Russian friend! I have 2 months before the Russians attack Cape Cod and I can try out the vocabulary I have learned this winter.
I'm easily amused late at night...

hain't - I took it from the story "Sherlock Holmes" By A. CONAN DOYLE
    There is a short dialog:

    Have you found it, Wiggins?"
"No, sir, we hain't," said one of the youths.

Anyway, I'm so sorry .... I thought it was an adopted version of "haven't"

    I agree!!!
But if no one corrected him, I thought that it was my duty to do it !!!

May be, it is an imitation of children's enunciation?
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

Aw Chuvak - these writers can be so nasty, can't they?
In this case, I suppose Mr. ACD used a phonetic transcription of bad, probably regional dialect, English, to show that the young person speaking wasn't well educated.
You get that a lot in Dickens too.....

But you weren't to know that - just blame the British

    Raed - welcome to MR
Music is often pretty good for getting used to stresses in words, but if you want proper pronunciation, I suggest you go for classical singers - they usually have very clean pronunciation (probably too clean - but you have to start somewhere!).

Have a great time, you'll learn an awful lot here!

Raed - sorry, I missed this post

There are so many songs that it's hard to pick out just a few

For a couple of great voices (and extremely clear pronunciation), have a listen to these:
    http://bards.pp.ru/50let/

(If you want the text of any of these songs, just drop me a line, I have most of them )

You can also browse around the "Russian Only" board - our Lampada always posts lots and lots of great songs .
That way, you can make up your own mind on what you do and don't like ....

    Good luck!
