If you are a beginner, you should start with a live person, a tutor, otherwise you will run into problems. If you want to be able to speak Russian, that is. Начало, Голоса, и В пути are three series used in colleges.
What kind of problems will I run into if I don't start with a tutor?
Mostly pronunciation. Palatalization. How to pronounce the letters И and Ы and O. Stress positions (in many words stress falls on different syllables depending on grammatical case for nouns and person in verbs). Sentence intonation patterns. But basically, you don't know what you don't know, but a tutor will know.
