    Re: Resources for Learning Russian

Someone has posted the complete text, and the audio, for the US State Department's FAST course in Russian at the following link: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=5...78672f26f53457

It's for people being assigned to diplomatic facilities in Russia, and includes various (presumably no longer up-to-date) hints re living there, etc. It's a "short course" intended to provide basic conversational skiils rather than a comprehensive grammar-based course, but some may still find it useful.

Please estimate this short Russian language review:

It was created for the foreign business partners who began studying Russian.

Really? It just looked like basic beginner Russian to me

Center, part of GWU's Russian program, I believe, has an awesome resource where they read the news slightly slowed down. They also define core new vocab and have a full transcript. http://nclrc.org/webcasts/russian/

The DLI Russian course materials (I think all of the written materials, but only the first half of the audio) have been put onto the web for downloading as follows:

    Re: Resources for Learning Russian

I highly recommend the site http://Language101.com for learning Russian. It has resources for German, French and some Spanish as well . If you want to study Russian using this language learning program you'll have to purchase one of their plans but they also offer a lot of free materials including listening to all the audio recordings and watching excerpts from Russian movies with detailed scripts. I tried a couple of German lessons and it was a lot of fun.

Anyone know the name of this one?

I found a cool rescource yesterday, where they have these very short dialogues, just four lines or so. Perfect for a beginner like me. I was sure I bookmarked it, and now I can't remember the path I took to find it. I *think* it was related to a University site. The thing I remember about it was that there was a clock on the page, if that helps anyone. Oh well, you guys have listed so much as it is...

As far as learning to read Russian goes, I think this is the best I've seen.. http://russian-video-blog.com/category/read-russian/
It has 2 videos on how to remember the Russian alphabet, and after that two videos of reading actual Russian signs. Pretty cool.

The State department (FSI) page for this is public, as are several short course for other languages. Just look here:

    http://fsi-language-courses.org/Content ... ge=Russian

The way to do this for self-study would be to open the text in one tab or window and open the audio in another window. Then just stop the audio when you need to. The material is really organized quite well, at least for the first 5 lessons I looked over today. Since the audio and text go together so nicely, I would say this is one of the best beginner self-study programs I've seen yet, and I've looked at lots of them. Obviously it won't hurt to supplement it with other materials as well.

The Russian Princeton course is good too. There are audio files, and in depth grammar explanations. The author also has a good sense of humor in his text.

I recommend this website: russianforfree.com They have lots of audio and the site looks clean and cute.

They have, among other things, these 2 courses:
Learn how to read Russian in 7 lessons
Course of basic Russian (the best I've ever seen!)
